A Shield To The Vulnerable

The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
— Psalm 28:7

The Lord is our shield.

Do we shield the ones we love? Do we come to their defense when someone speaks against them or do we join in on the gossip?

Do we provide a safe place for the ones we love to open up their hearts without fear that the whole community will hear what they have given to us in confidence?

The Lord gives us a safe place.

We can tell Him all things without fear that everyone will know the inner workings of our lives and hearts. Our loved ones need to know that they can come to us and share openly in confidence. We can remind them to go to the Lord first for He is the ultimate listener and the only One that can actually create a solution. But, others need to know that if they do entrust their hearts to us, it is not taken lightly.

When we trust God with our hearts we are helped. When those in our lives trust us with their hearts, are they helped or harmed? Do they receive a loving shield from the world or judgement and critisism?

Everything does not need to be passed on. Just like we want the Lord to shield us, we can act as a shield to others that He puts in our path. Certainly not as a replacement for Him, but as an additional space for His love to come through.

It takes courage to be vulnerable. Let us be a shield, a safe place for those around us in their times of need. A trustworthy example of Christ's compassionate arms, passing on the shield that He has used to cover us with love.

To Ponder:

Do I create a safe, shielded space for the ones I love?

Thank You for being my shield that I can trust You and go to You in confidence knowing no matter what I need to share that I will be received with Your Perfect Love. Help me to be a shield for those You have placed in my life. That I will be trustworthy and loving, creating a safe space for them.

Help me to guard and protect the emotions of the ones I love. Perfect Your love within us.

"No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us." 1 John 4:12
