According To HIS Purpose

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
— Romans 8:28

Romans 8:28 is a popular scripture. We tend to claim it over our lives often. And with good reason, it is lovely and encouraging.

God is working everything together for our good because He loves us. We cannot even imagine the height and depth of His love. But, we may be missing a key point...

Let's look at that last part- them who are called according to His purpose. We have an idea of what is good for us and want God to fit into that. How often do we pray for God to bless our agenda instead of asking Him what His agenda is?

He created us for His glory. And then He sent His Son to redeem us so we are twice His.

"Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him." Isaiah 43:7

And it is His purpose that is best for us because He is our Creator and He knows the end from the beginning. He has been in our yesterday and He has been in our tomorrow.

While we may plan and seek blessings for our lives, and Our Loving Father wants to give us the desires of our hearts, let us not forget that our ultimate purpose is to glorify Him. May we submit our hopes, dreams, and the desires of our hearts to Him. May all things work together for good to His glory.

To Ponder:

Am I trying to override God's purpose with my agenda?

Prayer:

Father God,

Forgive me for trying to make things go my way instead of asking You what You would have me do. To You be the glory in my life. I submit my plans and dreams to You for Your will to be done. Help me hear Your voice and be guided by Your Holy Spirit that I will know Your will and give me the heart to submit to it.

I know Your purpose is for my good and I want to trust You fully even when I do not see or understand. For Your ways are higher. Thank You for always working all things to my good and calling me to Your purpose. May my life honor You.

In Jesus' name amen.
