Authentic And True
This verse in Colossians is clear that we should not lie with our words to one another as new creatures in Christ. What we did in the past is to be changed. That was the old man. But, we can also look at this verse as a testament to being authentic, not lying with the persona we present.
You are putting off the old man and putting on the new. This is who you are in Christ. Sometimes people do not want to allow us to change. You were acting one way and now another. This is because God is working on your heart from which your words and actions flow.
If your conversion has been drastic, be patient with people when they do not believe the changes. Stay true to your new identity in Christ and they will begin to see the change is authentic over time.
Even if you have not had a drastic conversion experience, we all can struggle with our identity from time to time. Changing who we appear to be depending on who we are around. But, we do not want to be double-minded as the Bible puts it. Seek to be genuine with everyone.
We can get better at this by studying who God says we are and praying for Him to transform us from inside out into His image.
Healthy relationships are authentic ones and authenticity starts individually.
"Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good." Romans 12:9 (ESV)
Am I being true to who God created me to be with myself and with others?
Sometimes I struggle with my identity. There is so much in the world telling me who I am. But, I want to know who I am in You. Who You created me to be. Help me to always look to who You say I am in Your Word and to present myself authentically to the world.
Transform me into Your image. One of honesty and truth. I know according to Jeremiah 29:11 that you have created me with purpose, an expected end. Help me live true to myself, others, and Your plan for my life Father.
