Faith In The Promise Not The Path

And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
— Hebrews 6:15

I heard a pastor say,

"My hope is not in the path, it's in the promise."

The quickest way from one point to another may be a straight line, but our lives rarely look like that. They curve and swirl and go down into a valley, up to a peak, and curve some more.

But, it does not matter. It does not matter what your winding path looks like.  If you believe in God's promises He is bringing you to the destination that you need to be. We have a plan of how our lives "should" look. Some of the more analytical among us even have a checklist and a ten-year plan.

Here's the thing- God is Good and God is good at being God.

We don't need to try to manipulate and control everything.

Hebrews 11:1 says,

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen."

Sometimes I just want to shout at the sky, "But, Lord, I want to see!" If I could see, it wouldn't be faith. We cannot see the end from the beginning. But, that doesn't matter either, because we serve a God who can.

I do not need to know "how" I will get from one point to another because I know the "Who." Do you see how powerful that is? We can take a deep breath and just let go. God has it. He is way smarter.

Sometimes, most of the time...like all the time, there is an endurance period. But, the Word Of God says that after that the promise is obtained. Don't give up your faith before you receive.

Faith in the promise.

To Ponder:

Am I discouraged by the path or keeping my eyes on the promise?

Prayer:

Father God, I do not want to look upon my path with all its twists and turns only to be discouraged and defeated. I want to keep my eyes on You. I want to look forward to Your promises.

Help me to claim Your Words of truth over my life. I cast off fear and discouragement now.

In Jesus Name, Amen.
