How A Simple Notebook Can Help You Hear God

And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.
— 1 Samuel 3:10

Could our renewal be in are ability to listen?

Creating time and space for our God is the first step, but our silence can be the next.

Prayer and Bible reading are so important. But, if we do not stop and listen and contemplate, neither one has the space to truly reach our hearts.

How many times are we rushing through our devotionals and Bible reading to just get through it? How many times are we praying and talking at God, telling Him all the things we think He should know about? He already knows.

And while our Heavenly Father loves us and wants to hear from us, how often is He is saying, Oh if my son or daughter would just listen I could move in their life in such a powerful way.

So often we do not provide Him the opportunity to speak.

Prayer and Bible Study are for our transformation. God does not need to be transformed. We do.

What if, like Samuel, we paused and said, "Speak Lord, your servant is listening?"

And, allowed God to speak what we need for the transformation and renewal of our hearts.

It could be life altering.

To Ponder:

What would happen if I took a notebook into my prayer time and asked God what He wants me to know?

Try it. If you do not hear anything at first, be persistent. If you expect to hear from God, when you spend time with Him, you will. Pray for the Holy Spirit to help you listen and hear. And Start writing what the Lord has to say. John 10:4 "...and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice."

Prayer Time

Lord, your servant is listening. I pray for the Holy Spirit's guidance. Speak now to my heart. What do you want me to know?
