Humble Yourself That You May Be Exalted

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
— 1 Peter 5:6,7

Our relationship with God and with others requires humility.

Humility before God for He is the King of the Universe, creator of all and far wiser than we could ever dream of being. Humility before each other because we all, every single one, have failed at some time, have hurt someone even if unintentionally.

God says that if we humble ourselves under His mighty hand, He will exalt us in due time. He uses this time of humility for our character development. It is a growing pain. That mighty hand of God is the hand of protection that guards us as we grow into the loving people that He wants us to be. As we learn to reflect His character.

James 4:10 says,

"Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up."

He lifts us up in our character. He lifts us up to a higher plain of peace. Following His ways and laws helps us to build better, stronger, and healthier relationships.

And let us not forget verse 7,  Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

No one else can handle our cares the way God can. And while it is nice to have a human ear and loved ones to share life with God is the one who can shoulder anything we cannot or do not want to bear. Whether it is a struggle within a human relationship, our spiritual walk, a health concern, or any care that hurts our hearts, God is the ultimate friend.

He says, give it to me. I've got it and I love you.

To Ponder:

Do I have the humility to admit that I cannot do it all and ask for help when I need it?

Father God,

I struggle with humility. I think I can get through by the sheer force of my will. I want to appear strong. But, the truth is I cannot do it on my own. I need You. Help me to be humble before You and also with the ones I love. To admit when I am wrong. To have a soft answer that turns away anger instead of hanging on to my pride and position.

Teach me to cast all my cares and concerns on You rather than trying to carry them on my own shoulders. Build a Godly character within me that I may represent You in all my relationships with love and care.
