Hunger And Thirst No More

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
— John 6:35

Who is Jesus to us?

The Gospel of John speaks of the Great "I Am" listing not one, but seven "I Am" statements of Jesus. The first, I am the bread of life.

A few verses later, the I Am is repeated, but with an important preceding statement,

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. I am that bread of life. John 6:47,48

We must first believe and receive everlasting life before we can receive our spiritual nourishment, The Bread Of Life. Once we are alive in Christ, that is when we need continual spiritual food.

Could it be that it is through The Bread Of Life, continual nourishment that we have life everlasting? Bread is for the living. Once we have given our lives to Christ, we cannot just go on our merry way and never feed upon Him and His words. He is our daily sustenance.

It does no good to have a loaf of bread and glass of water on the table and just look at. It is by eating and drinking them that our life is sustained.

Jesus can meet all of our spiritual needs, every single one. Without Him we experience an emptiness that we sometimes try to fill with other things, but it doesn't work. Nothing else can fill that void inside of us that is meant for Our Savoir.

No earthly relationship, no physical food, no amount of money or success, nothing but Christ. Jesus it the only way. Without Him, we will always feel a void,

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

We were created by Him and can be sustained by Him.

To Ponder:

Is there a longing in my heart, a void, that I have been trying to fill with something else when only Jesus can fill it?

Prayer:

Lord And Savoir,

You are the Great I Am. And You have created me with a place in my heart that is for You and You only can fill it. I sometimes search for something else to fill that place. Physical pleasures and sustenance, self-help books, approval from others, success. But, You are the Bread Of Life. Manna from heaven and the only One that can feed the hungering of my soul.

May I always seek You and You only for my spiritual nourishment. May I seek after righteousness and be filled.

Amen
