I Am The True Vine Abide In Me

I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
— John 15:5

How can we see a great harvest?

By abiding in Christ. Allowing Him to trim away what is not serving us, what is not bearing fruit.  Abide translated from the Greek, means to remain, stay, wait. We must remain with Jesus, maintaining a close relationship with Him if we want to bear great fruit.

The vine and the branches are in a strong relationship. There are no branches without the vine sustaining and supporting them. As long as they are connected to the vine, branches can grow out strong and bring forth a bountiful harvest. But not connected to the vine they soon wither up and die.

Jesus promises to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves. Give us a strong and safe place from which to grow. To Him be the glory always for without Him we can do nothing.

Verse 2 says that He takes away every branch that does not bear fruit and He purges the branches that do bear so that they may bear more.

Jesus puts us through a cleansing, purging process so that we may glorify the Father with our fruits. Christ invites us to abide in Him and in His love that He can make us into all we are meant to be. Are you abiding patiently waiting for a great harvest?

To Ponder:

Am I dragging out the purging process with my complaining? How would things be different if I instead glorified God for the work He is doing in me?

Prayer:

Lord,

Help me to abide in You always, going through the purging process patiently and faithfully knowing that You are doing a great work within me so that I may bear more fruit.

Thank You for being the strong Vine from which I can branch out and grow. Thank You for allowing me to abide in Your love. Let me see a great harvest Lord.

Amen
