Look Up The Harvest Is Ready

Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.
— John 4:35

We have this issue in our humanity about putting off things until circumstances are different.

I'll tithe when I make more. I'll volunteer when I free up some more time. I'll start my diet at the beginning of a new month. I'll start cooking healthier when I have more energy. Etc.

We wait for circumstances to be better somehow in order to start. But, we can always put off for later what we could be working on today and reaping the rewards of later.

Harvest brings the fruits of our labor, but it is also the time that requires the most work. It is when farmers get up the earliest, work the hardest, and sleep the least. Jesus, in all His wisdom, said don't wait. Look up the harvest is already here. And it's our time to put the most effort in order to see the rewards.

What we are waiting to get over, before we start, it is often harvest opportunity in disguise as a less than perfect circumstance. Many times it is our trials that are our biggest opportunities.

Maybe it is time for us to "look up" from our excuses today and see what harvest opportunities are already here.

To Ponder:

Are there harvesting opportunities that I'm missing while waiting for circumstances to change?

Prayer:

Father God, the fields are white with harvest. Thank You. May I be faithful and get to work in my life, church, and community to Your glory. Help me to look up and see circumstances with fresh eyes the way you see them. Not as barriers that I need to eliminate in order to reap, but as opportunities to work with You, my Great God. To see miracles and Your goodness in what seems to be less than perfect circumstances. Help me not miss the opportunities that You have set before me. Show me what I can do now.

To You be the glory.

In Jesus' name, amen.
