Love And Good Works

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
— Ephesians 2:10

In his letter to the Church at Ephesus, Paul shares that we are saved through faith, not of ourselves, but as God's gift, chapter 2 verses 8 and 9. Yet, in verse 10, Pauls tells us that we are created in Christ unto good works.

James 2:14-26 also tells us that faith without works is dead.

When we love Jesus, the good works follow. We want to do good works, not as an obligation but out of our love for Him because He first loved us. When we truly love someone, we want to do good acts for them because we want them to feel good and be blessed.

It is not out of duty, but a natural outpouring of love.

If we feel drudgery, rather than love, when performing tasks for others, maybe we need to ask Jesus to do some extra work on our hearts. When we are a new creation in Christ, He performs heart transformation.

The Bible tells us that out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. (Luke 6:45) Could it also be that out of the overflow of the heart works are performed?

May our love for God and man be represented in our actions. "What is done in love is done well."

To Ponder:

Do I dread the tasks I feel I "must do" for others? Or are my actions from an overflow of love?

Prayer:

Father God,

I want to serve You and others out of love. But, sometimes I lose sight of that love in everyday life and feel burdened in service. Forgive me for that Father. Fill me up with so much love, transform my heart that I may serve from the overflow. Teach me to love like You do.

I want to hold Your people in my heart.

Amen

I, the Lord of sea and sky,
I have heard My people cry.
All who dwell in dark and sin,
My hand will save.
I who made the stars of night,
I will make their darkness bright.
Who will bear My light to them?
Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain,
I have borne my people's pain.
I have wept for love of them, They turn away.
I will break their hearts of stone,
Give them hearts for love alone.
I will speak My word to them
Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of wind and flame
I will tend the poor and lame.
I will set a feast for them,
My hand will save
Finest bread I will provide,
Till their hearts be satisfied.
I will give My life to them,
Whom shall I send?

Here I am Lord, Is it I, Lord?
I have heard You calling in the night.
I will go Lord, if You lead me.
I will hold Your people in my heart.
