Jesus was on the cross and made this statement,
"It is finished."
He overcame the world so that we too, through Him, could overcome. As long as we are faithful to Him, and give our lives to Him, our victory is assured. He already won the war.
The Bible promises a lot of great things like prosperity and joy. Even this verse in John shows that Jesus wants to give us peace. But, John chapter 16 also says that we will have trials, tribulation.
We do not have to be anxious about the tribulation in our lives, however, because we have an ever present Savior who already won.
The kind of peace that Jesus died on the cross to give us is not the peace that you have when things are going well and you are surrounded by calm. No, it is a much stronger peace, an internal down to the core, kind of peace that does not change with circumstances. It is not peace from the storm, but peace in the midst of it.
Jesus saved us. We do not have to question why we are going through what we are going through, but believe that we have a Keeper that will bring us through it and work it all to our good in the end.
God is often seeking to change us, not our circumstances. So that no matter what we go through, the good and the bad, we rely fully on Him.
Do I trust God enough to have peace in tribulation?
God, you are the giver of peace that passeth all understanding. Peace that does not come and go with my circumstances, but is built on faith and trust. Fill my heart with peace now Father God. May I be strong and courageous because of You.
In Jesus Name, and through His victory, Amen.
