Soul Preserving Reproof

He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.
— Proverbs 15:32

Have you ever made a mistake?

We all have been in need of correction at some time. It takes humility to admit when we are wrong or need guidance and instruction. But if we value our souls, we must learn to accept it. By hearing and listening to God's Word, we grow in understanding. But, just having the knowledge is not enough. We have to allow it to change us for the better.

To turn from what is not working and not good for us to the way that God has set before us. Instruction can keep us from making bigger and bigger mistakes that waste precious time and resources.

Verse 33,

"The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom; and before honour is humility."

God loves us so much that He wants what is best for us. He loves us enough to correct us and instruct us in the way which we should go. Our Heavenly Father knows best and gives us His Word to guide us. But, sometimes we rebel like spoiled children who stubbornly want to make their own way. How much heartache would be spared if we would only hear and do the will of our Father?

May we obtain a heart of humility to walk humbly before God learning what he has to teach each one of us personally. We can rise so much higher in life and walk much happier with His guidance.

Instruction can be life preserving and soul restoring. May we recieve it graciously.

To Ponder:

Do I value instruction?

Father God,

Sometimes I think I know best. I act with pride instead of humility and miss the blessings that You have waiting for me. Teach me to love instruction. To walk humbly before You learning all that You would have me to. Guide me with Your Spirit. Help me to understand that even when I don't understand You truly do know what is best and give me Your instructions from a perfect place of love.

In Jesus' name amen.
