The Heavens Cannot Contain Thee

But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!
— 2 Chronicles 6:18

In Chapter 6 of second Chronicles, Solomon blesses the God of Israel. In chapter 5 the work Solomon had commissioned for the house of the Lord was finished and the priests brought in the ark. The Levites lifted up their songs to God and the cloud of His Holy Presence appeared,

"So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God." 2 Chronicles 5:14

God's presence in His house was so great that they could not withstand it. God's presence was in the house that Solomon built but it could not contain Him. Solomon tells us that heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain Him.

How Great is our God!

Sometimes we try to rationalize God. To figure Him out and fit Him into a box of how we think He is or how we think He should be. What a limited mindset. If we could only catch a small glimpse of God's true glory, I know we would never be the same.

Yet, in such magnificent greatness, He bends down to hear our supplications and provide for our needs. What love.

As we go through our day today, let us remember that our God is greater than anything we can imagine and He has us in His hands. The heaven of heavens cannot contain Him.

To Ponder:

Am I limiting God to the box of my own understanding?

Prayer:

Father God, You are Great! May I not limit You by my own understanding and experiences. But rather know that You have ways that are above my ways. That You are Marvelous and yet so loving to hear my cries. Hearken unto my supplications and guide me with Your wisdom. Dwell in my heart today.

I praise You for You are Great.

In Jesus' name amen.
