THE Measure Of Faith

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
— Romans 12:3

Did you know that you have been given THE measure of faith?

For the longest time, when I recalled that verse in Romans, I thought it said "a" measure of faith. Being a writer with a love of words that difference between "a measure" and "the measure" is huge to me.

We think we have been given a little faith and we have to grow it. But, actually, we have been given THE measure of faith we need we just have to exercise it. In our weakness, we think we can never have enough faith to see God's wonders performed like the Bible characters of old. But, Jesus said,

"If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you." Luke 17:6

Have you ever seen a mustard seed? It is quite small.

Romans chapter 12 is about continual spiritual transformation. Our journey with the Lord is an ever growing and expanding one. As we walk with Him and exercise the faith we have been given, we see His goodness and leading. This gives us the ability to exercise our faith more and more as we learn to trust Him.

Paul admonishes us to not think of ourselves more highly than we ought. It is God who has given us the faith and gifts that we need to walk with Him. Let us be thankful for our measure of faith and walk humbly knowing all good things come from above.

We can exercise our faith by walking with God, reading His Word, recording and reviewing the ways God has been faithful to us in the past, and hearing the testimonies of others.

Water your faith. Fuel your faith.

To Ponder:

Am I exercising The Measure Of Faith I have been given? How could I exercise my faith more?

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the measure of faith You have given me. Help me walk by faith believing You and Your Word. Not waiting to see, but knowing that You are already working and have prepared the way for me.

Thank You In Jesus Name, Amen
