Have You Walked Through The Right Door?

Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
— John 10:7

I Am the Door.

Some versions say I Am the Gate.

Both represent an opening, a way in.

Jesus uses a variety of ways to describe Himself so that His hearers with different backgrounds could understand. Verse 1 says that he who tries to enter another way into the sheepfold is a thief. Jesus is the door of the sheep. His sheep know His voice and follow Him.

"I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture." John 10:9

A door provides protection, while also providing the freedom to come and go. Jesus says "and shall go in and out." The door is not locked, it is not a trap. Jesus is offering us an opening to the Kingdom of God through Him and Protection in Him.

Jesus is the door of God's church. There is no way of salvation except through Him. We can bring people to Jesus. Pastors and church leaders, missionaries, and friends. But, Jesus is the only way anyone receives salvation.

We can bring others to The Door of the church, but Jesus does the saving. He is our Shepherd, His sheep know His voice.

To Ponder:

How can I bring lost sheep to You Lord? How may I serve Your flock?

You and You alone are the way. May I never forget. You are my protection. Deepen my spiritual discernment that I may always hear and know Your voice. May Your voice rise above all others in my ears and in my heart. And may I draw others to the one True Door.
