Thou Maintainest My Lot

The Lord is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.
— Psalm 16:5

Did you know that God promises joy and pleasures? Not always. The Bible says we will go through hard times, but we were created for joy and communion with Our Creator. He maintains us. When we get to heaven and are again at God's right hand, we can have pleasures for evermore.

But, even now we can find joy in our salvation and the life and blessings God has given.

Jesus said,

"These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full." John 15:11

By keeping God's commandments, and dwelling with Him, we can live a more joyful and blessed life. We can learn to say with Paul, in whatsoever state I am in I'm content. (Philippians 4:11)  Even when hardships and trials come we can look heavenward and know that this is not our final home.

Let us have joy by staying on the path that God has set. He is the only way to true freedom and a joyful heart.

To Ponder:

Can I feel the joy of the Lord? If not, how could I kindle that?

Heavenly Father,

Thank You for the goodness and joy that still exists. For my hope of a heavenly home and for my salvation through Your Son Jesus. In You is where my hope and joy are. Thank You, God.
