Write The Vision Clearly And Act At The Appointed Time
Write the vision. We have a wonderful lesson here in Habakkuk on writing words to inspire action- so he that may run with it who reads it.
How often have you had a grocery list and didn't write it down because you think "Oh, I'll remember."? Writing it down just seems like too much effort. But, then you got there and you forget multiple things.
Psychology Professor Dr. Gail Matthews did a goal setting study and found that participants were 42% more likely to achieve their goals just by writing them down. If you make the goals "plain" as Habakkuk was instructed and if you keep them before your eyes, you are even more likely to achieve them.
Can you think of something else inscribed on tables in the Bible? God's Commandments. He wants us to keep those Words before our eyes and in our hearts.
Habakkuk goes on to say in verses 3 and 4,
"For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith."
Sometimes when God gives us a vision for our lives, it seems to tarry. But, it is for an appointed time. We must walk by faith knowing that He will fulfill it.
In the meantime, through prayer and asking for the Holy Spirit to guide us, we can write the words God gives us and cherish them in our hearts.
Ever felt impressed with something, but didn't write it down and forgot it?
Carry a notebook with you, especially into your prayer and Bible Study time, and see what wonderful things God will teach you.
When you give me a vision help me to write it clearly and keep it before my eyes. To take any action You instruct me to take and then wait on You by faith. I know there is also power in writing Your Word, show me the scriptures to write in my prayer journal that they will be Words Of Life, a personal message from You to me. Help me to listen for You and Your Holy Spirit. Help me to memorize Your words through writing them down so that they may help me to resist temptation and I can say, like Jesus, "It is written..." (Matthew 4:4)
