Your Words Are Life And Hope To My Bones

Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
— Proverbs 29:18

Vision. This Scripture is often used at the beginning of the year to encourage hearers to create a vision statement and set goals.

And while there is so much power in that, this Bible passage goes deeper. The less focused on second half of that verse tells us that happy are those that keep God's law.

Could it be that the vision spoke of in Proverbs 29:18 is not our vision, but God's divine revelation? That the "vision" set before us, is the Word Of God and it is what keeps us from spiritual death?

God is calling us to heed to His vision for our lives, to keep His precepts so we may be blessed. Not as a burden but for life and happiness all the way down to the deep core of our beings. The prophet Ezekiel witnessed what lack of the Lord's Words Of Life looks like. A valley of dry bones,

"And he said unto me, Son of man, can these bones live? And I answered, O Lord God, thou knowest. Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord."

In verse 2, the Prophet Ezekiel says that the bones were not just dry, but, "very dry."

What was to make these very dry bones come to life? The Word of the Lord.

Proverbs chapter 3 tells us that the acknowledgement and keeping of God's commandments (the Words of the Lord) bring health to the navel and marrow to the bones.

Did you know that our emotional health depends largely on our gut health? Science has discovered that there is a major gut to brain connection. In fact, our immune systems and emotional health depend on it. "Gut" / "Navel" Do you see what God did there?

As for bone marrow, it is responsible for creating our stem cells and thus blood cells. The essential requirements to live.

Do we serve an amazing God or what!

Long before scientists were performing stem cell research the Word of God told of the necessary components that make up life.

What happened to those very dry bones that Ezekial saw after hearing the Words/Vision of the Lord?

Verse 10,

"So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived, and stood up upon their feet, an exceeding great army."

Life. Life happened.

To Ponder:

Is my spiritual life appearing more like a valley of dry bones than an active expression of God's Words and Precepts?

If the answer is yes, know that God's Word is alive and well. It can bring dry bones back to life.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, I can see through Your Words that no matter how very dry my spiritual life is, You can bring it back to life. May Your vision be the guiding force of my life. Speak Your Words to my heart daily that I may go forth as a living testimony of their power. Help me to faithfully read Your Holy Word, not as a storybook, but as life to my bones. Not as hearer only but a doer of Your life-giving law.

For Jesus said,

The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63

Amen
